CONSTRUCTION 4.0 - CIVIL ENGINEERING PERSPECTIVE
On 4th April 2019 ICI student chapter of MITS organized a technical summit on the topic “Construction 4.0- Civil Engineering Perspective”. Our esteemed panelists were, Er. S Sathiapalan (Retd. Executive Engineer, Kerala PWD/NH Division and leading structural consultant in Kerala. Currently employed with “Safe Matrix Architectural and Engineering Consultants India Pvt. Ltd”), Er. Reji Zachariah (Chief Executive Officer, S&R Consultants, Kochi) and Prof.Nidhi M B (Professor, Mar Baselious College of Engineering and Technology, Trivandrum, National Executive council member of ISTE and Joint Secretary of IIIE - Indian Institution of Industrial Engineers, Kerala Chapter)
The session was included with a panel discussion followed by interaction with civil engineering students of MITS. Students from nearby colleges have also attended the session. The session was greatly benefited for students to have an overview of the possibilities and future of civil engineering constructions.
SITE VISIT TO AASHIYANA CONSTRUCTION PROJECT
The S4, S6 and S8 students visited three construction sites of Aashiyana construction project at Kumarakom. S4 and S8 students visited the sites on 27-03-2019 accompanied by 3 faculty and 3 Lab Instructors. S6 students visited the sites on 29-03-2019, accompanied by 5 faculty and 2 Junior Engineers.
TECHNICAL TALK ON "ROLE OF ADMIXTURES IN CONCRETE INDUSTRY"
On 12th February 2019, an expert session on Concrete Concepts was conducted for 1st year and second year Civil Engineering students of MITS. The session was handled by Er. Mathukutty Sebastian, Sale Engineer BASF, Kochi. The session was very much interactive and informational for our civil engineering aspirants.
SITE VISIT TO THYKOODAM METRO SITE
On 31st January 2019, students of S6 CE visited the Thykoodam Metro construction site. The site visit helped them to understand the modern construction techniques adopted in the site. The journey was under the leadership of Ms. Nishida A (Asst. Professor, Dept of CE) and Mr. Narayanan C R(Lab staff, CE).
SITE VISIT TO CHAMBAKKARA ARCH DAM CONSTRUCTION
On 31th January 2019, students of S8 CE visited the Chambakkara Arch dam construction site The site visit helped them to understand modern construction techniques adopted in the site. The visit was very interesting and enlightening for the students and faculty. The journey was under the leadership of Mr. Basil Mathai(Asst. Professor, Dept of CE).
SITE VISIT TO MUTHOOT COOPERATE OFFICE PALARIVATTOM
On 30th January 2019, students of S4 CE visited the construction site of Muthoot Cooperate office Palarivattom. The site visit helped them to understand various construction methods used in the site. The journey was under the leadership of Mr. Sunith John David (Asst. Professor, Dept of CE) and Mr. Narayanan C R(Lab staff, CE).
BRIDGE-CON- CASE STUDY COMPETITION ON BRIDGES AFFECTED BY FLOOD
On 16th October 2018, ICI student chapter MITS conducted “Bridge-CON”, a case study competition on Bridges affected by the flood. Students were very much enthusiastic to participate in such competition that brings out their responsibility towards society as young civil engineering aspirants. The competition was all about site inspection, retrofitting and remedial measures to avoid such bridge failure during floods. The event was exclusively for final year civil engineering students and a total of 29 students participated for the same.
ENGINEERS' DAY CELEBRATION
The Civil Engineering Association, ETERNIA organized Engineers' Day celebration of MITS on 15th September 2018, to celebrate the birthday of the Stalwart of Indian Engineering, M. Visveswaraya. The Engineers' Day message was delivered by Dr. M.P. Sukumaran Nair, Former Chairman, Public Sector Restructuring & Internal Audit Board (RIAB), at Isaac Newton Hall. Ms. Mary Lissy P.N (HoD, CE) delivered the welcome address, followed by the Presidential Address by Dr. Chikku Abraham, (Vice Principal, MITS).
INTER-DEPARTMENT DEBATE COMPETITION
The Civil Engineering Association, ETERNIA in association with ICI and IGBC conducted an inter-department Debate Competition. The Preliminary round was conducted on 13th September 2018 on the topic ‘Women Empowerment in India is a Myth’ and four teams consisting of two members each was selected to the Final round. The Final round was conducted on 15th September 2018 on the topic ‘India has not made adequate progress with regard to Women’s Rights’. Mr. Neelakandan P.C (Associate Director, Adi Shankara Institute of Engineering Technology) elevated the competition as the Moderator. Miss Mekhna Rose Binil and Megha Mary Biju of S3, EEE won the competition.
ETERNIA, the Civil Engineering Association of Muthoot Institute of Technology and Science, in association withIndian Concrete Institute and The Institution of Engineers (India), organized TrafFIX - an idea presentation competition on 24th March 2018, powered by CADD CENTRE, to decongest the traffic in Vyttila. The competition was opened to both the public and students from MITS, which was categorized separately. 20 teams from 12 different colleges across Kerala registered for the event. The event was conducted in 2 rounds. After the first round, 5 teams were selected to present their ideas before an eminent panel of judges. CIAL Director, Shri. A Chadrakumaran Nair was the chief guest of the day. Viswajyothy college of Engineering & Technology, Vazhakulam emerged as winners and won a cash prize of Rs 25000. The event was coordinated by Ms. Sarah Joy (Assistant Professor, CE) & Ms. Serin Sara Roy (Assistant Professor, CE).
TECHNICAL SESSION ON "ADVANCEMENTS IN CONCRETE”
On 9th March 2018, an expert session on Advancements in Concrete was conducted for second year and third year civil students. The session was headed by Dr.Elson John, Asst. Professor, MACE, Kothamangalam. The session provides an opportunity for the students to identify, discuss and apply the materials and technology available in producing good concrete that is suitable for different applications.
TECHNICAL SESSION ON "WATER PROOFING TECHNIQUES”
On 19th February 2018, an expert session on Water Proofing Techniques in Concrete was conducted for 1st year civil students. The session was headed by Mr. Rajesh Kumar R, Managing Partner, ACCL Building Solutions. It was a great experience for students to understand some of the modern techniques used waterproofing and interact with the experts from the industry.
TECHNICAL TALK ON “GOOD CONSTRUCT PRACTICES”
On 9th February 2018, a technical session on Good Construction Practices was organized by ICI Student chapter of MITS for 3rd and 4th years of civil engineering students. The session was headed by Dr.Vasude v R, Asso. Professor, Toc H Institute of Science and Technology and Executive member of ICI Kochi Chapter. The session was concluded with what the different wrong construction practices are followed in the construction industry and how we can rectify or eliminate such practices bringing quality in construction. The session provides great information and enthusiasm for the young civil engineering aspirants of MITS.
TRAINING SESSION ON "SPATIAL TECHNOLOGIES AND IT'S APPLICATIONS IN CIVIL ENGINEERING”
The Department of Civil Engineering organized a training session on “Geospatial Technologies and its applications in Civil Engineering” for S5 CE students on 25th November 2017. Read more.
TILTATORE 2017- Build a Leaning Tower
ETERNIA, in association with ICI student chapter of MITS, consociated an inter department leaning tower construction competition ‘TILTATORE 2017’ for students on 25th October 2017. The first position for the competition was bagged by Nijas Muhammed, Mathew Manoj, and Mohammed Saleh of S3 CE. The event was coordinated by Mr. Sunith John David (Assistant Professor, CE) & Mr. Rahul Mohan(Assistant Professor, CE).
ENVISION - Short Film Competition
ETERNIA, in association with ICI student chapter of MITS, organized a short film competition ‘ENVISION’ on the theme “Human interference on ecology” aiming to embolden the artist in engineers and to awaken the responsible citizens on 25th October, 2017. Read more.
INTERACTIVE TALK ON "ENTREPRENEURSHIP"
An enlightening and interactive talk on Entrepreneurship was headed by Mr. Fazil A S, Director of Dream Flower Housing Project Private Limited, on 20/03/2017.
